I worked at Trenton State Hospital in the late 1970s. It has been a long time since I have seen it. I remember going through the wards with the Mupet Show on the television that was safely kept in a cage. The music, show, and environment was very surreal. Added: December 30, 2007 |

i disagree with another users comment. these structures are not hideous! i myself find the older and more macabre they are, the more interesting. anyone can build a new structure, but they don't possess the type of hitory yet that i find facsinating. Added: December 6, 2007 |

This is obviously a labor of love. For those of us who have had loved ones who suffer mental illness, it is poignant to see the pictures of the once grand but now hideous structures. Once state of the art and now decrepit. What a shame to lose this connection to our social history. By the way, go to Clarinda Treatment Hosp, Iowa to see one in full operation! I think it's great that you have all those pictures up. Thank you for giving visual access to places that deserve to have their stories shared. The history of health care, especially mental healthcare is horrific, but seeing pictures of places where everything occurs just brings a new dimension to history. I used to volunteer in one of the crownsville buildings when it was used as the Anne Arundel County Food Bank. It definitely gave me the creeps to be there. Added: October 27, 2007 |

I love your site. I get so depressed when I drive past the grounds of the old Columbus Hospital, the building was demo'd in the late 90s- now a giant monstrosity housing the Department of Transportation. So sad. I've explored The Ridges in Athens, OH - very creepy and hope to make it up to Buffalo soon. Keep up the good work! Added: September 18, 2007 |

Love this website!!! Very interesting and great pictures. I just visited Henryton Sanitarium on Sunday (my son, husband and some friends went exploring). Very creepy but very interesting to say the least. Trying to figure out if it's haunted or not. We ran into some locals that swears it is and that they have had some ghostly encounters out there. We plan to go back next month at nighttime with some camera's, infrared glasses, and recorders to see what we can come up with. I'll let you know how it goes. Added: September 18, 2007 |

Excellent website, I enjoyed very much looking through all the photos. I also liked the very detailed history accounts that went along with each gallery. Great job, and keep up the good work! Added: September 4, 2007 |
